Van Truex

Van Day Truex (1904 - 1979) was active/lived in New York, Kansas / France.  Van Truex is known for Painting, design, teaching.

Van Day Truex was born March 5, 1904 in Delphos, Kansas.  He studied at the Parsons School of Design and at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas.  He  served as head of Parsons School of Design branch in Paris, France from 1930-39, and returned to New York before World War II and headed Parsons as president from 1942-53. 

Truex ontinued his connection with France where he built a house in Provence and designed award-winning crystal for Baccarat.  In 1954, Truex resigned from his administrative duties and designed architectural hardware for Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company and rugs for Edward Fields.  In 1955 he was invited by Tiffany & Company to oversee all design in their store.  He retired in 1967 and moved to his Provence house but returned to New York in 1979. He died in New York in April of 1979.
